In an effort to develop a list of "easy to maintain" trees and shrubs in Hawaii for planting in urban and wildland-urban-interface areas, the "Pacific Fire Exchange" is conducting a survey among professionals to gather feedback and generate such a list for the coastal low elevation zone (approximately sea level - 2,000 ft).
Understanding how well these plants do in the urban and near-urban environments can help us plan for "greenbreak" out-planting zones and can help us point homeowners to species which can survive and not become a fire threat themselves. In turn, this helps communities consider how they might reduce the potential threat of wildfire spread across the landscape.
Here is the link for the survey:

Instructions: Please rate the 30 plants for their tolerance to specific environmental stressors based on your experience with them. Best guesses are great! Otherwise answering "I don't know" is fine! Include any other knowledge you have of these plants, especially field observations. If you can recommend other non-invasive plants that survive well with minimal maintenance in the coastal lower elevation zone (up to 2,000 ft) please include those at the end of the survey. The entire survey should take 30 - 45 minutes. Deadline is February 28, 2023.
