Aloha Trees 2024

On March 13th, 2024 Mauget and Sherrill Tree sponsored an educational event at the Hawaii Convention Center.  Room 325 was packed by local arborists, landscapers, and others in the tree care industry. Attendees earned up to 8 ISA CEUs while getting the latest information on everything from tree injections with systemic pesticides to pruning and climbing techniques.

Figure 3. Chief Science Officer Andy Vega explained how borer beetles farm fungus to live on.  The fungus impacts trees but also makes treatment challenging.

Figure 4. University of Hawaii’s Dr. Zhiqiang Cheng gave the latest progress report on the Coconut Rhinoceros Beetle war, as well as the latest arbor pests.

Matt Lyum, Founder of Performance Landscapes and ECS Environmental.  Lyum holds a Restricted Use Pesticide Applicator Certificate, a is a Landscape Contractor RME. He is a member of the Hawaii State Farm Bureau and the Governor’s Advisory Committee on Pesticides.  He graduated from Punahou School and has a Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of Washington.
